“I’ve been thinking a lot about my mom who is much like a lot of Filipino-Americans, working in the front lines of Covid.
My mom has worked in a hospital setting since she moved to this country. A large percentage of Filipino-Americans are working in hospitals right now, nursing homes, post offices, and other high risk jobs to help our communities continue to function.
A lot of these positions are protected by unions, and I want to thank these unions for protecting our front liners with paid time off if employees get covid, with better working conditions, job security, healthcare, unemployment benefits, and vacation time.”
