This Law Enforcement Week, AFSCME is honoring 307 police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and paying special tribute to those who have put themselves on the frontlines during the coronavirus pandemic.

The names of these 307 officers will be inscribed upon the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. This list will include three AFSCME-represented officers who lost their lives in 2019: Deputy Sheriff Troy P. Chisum, Undersheriff Stephen B. McLoud, and Correctional Officer Pedro J. Rodríguez-Mateo.

“Our challenges are the same as everybody’s. We’re trying to keep ourselves safe, while trying to serve our community properly,” says Fulton County, Illinois, Deputy Ryan Maricle.
