My aunt and uncle are both in unions and agree that the workplace would be drastically different without them.
My uncle, who is the president of the local AFSCME union, stated that union organizations help create equality regarding pay and benefits for people involved. Without the formation of Unions, there would be no establishment of basic healthcare or minimum wage. These organizations also make sure that the workplace is held up to a standard of cleanliness and are safe for everyone.
My aunt who is a part of the Teachers Retirement System union in Chicago stated how unions are priceless and that if they were not involved in the decisions regarding COVID, there would be no option but to be physically present in schools. Luckily the union reps expressed their concerns and arranged for them to work safely from home, just like many other groups!
