I am a teacher in the wonderful city of Chicago. I am also a member of one of the largest teacher unions in the country. Being a part of the teachers union is important to me on so many levels. A friend of mine also got a job in the same city. I teach for public schools. She teaches for charter schools. She gets paid 10,000 less than what I started with and she’s also expected to work an additional hour a day. We both have the same jobs. Why does she get paid less and have to work more? Because I am in a union. The power of the union helps fight for my working wages. It’s not always easy being in a union, but together we are stronger.

Unions Know That Fairness Matters
Gabriel, a teacher in Chicago, instills in his students that honesty and fairness matter. Luckily, his teachers’ union is fighting for those same standards on his behalf, ensuring that he can continue to pass on this important lesson to the next generation of young people.
